Bore, outside diameter and width of deep-groove ball bearings by number, and how to read a bearing number
Loading the tool…
Gives the bore, outside diameter and width of deep-groove ball bearings from the bearing number, finds bearings that fit measured dimensions, and explains how a number such as 6204-2RS C3 is read. Use it when replacing a bearing whose number you can read, or one you can only measure.
How to use
- Type the number from the bearing's side face under "Bearing number", for example 6204ZZ; the bore, outside diameter and width appear with an explanation of each part of the number.
- If the number is unreadable, enter the dimensions you can measure under "Find by dimensions"; matching and nearby bearings are listed.
- Choose a series (618, 619, 60, 62, 63, 64) to see its full table in mm and inches, and use "Print" if you need it on paper.
How it works
- Bore code rule: 00 = 10 mm, 01 = 12 mm, 02 = 15 mm, 03 = 17 mm; from 04 the bore is the code × 5. Bores after a slash are in mm (62/22 = 22 mm), and one digit after the series is the bore of a small bearing (608 = 8 mm).
- Dimensions follow ISO 15. Each row agrees in at least two of the SKF, NSK and Timken catalogues; bores up to 200 mm are listed.
- Suffixes such as ZZ, 2RS and C3 do not change the dimensions. Their letters differ between makers. Load ratings, speeds and life are not covered.
Questions and answers
- What size is a 6204 bearing?
- Bore 20 mm, outside diameter 47 mm, width 14 mm. 6204ZZ and 6204-2RS have the same dimensions.
- What do ZZ and 2RS mean on a bearing?
- ZZ (or 2Z) means metal shields on both sides; 2RS means contact rubber seals on both sides. C3 means a larger internal clearance than normal.
- Is a 6805 the same as a 61805?
- Yes. Japanese makers write the 618 and 619 series as 68 and 69, so 6805 and 61805 are both 25 × 37 × 7 mm.
- How do I find a bearing from its measurements?
- Measure the bore, outside diameter and width and enter them under "Find by dimensions". For example 20 mm and 47 mm give 6204; the width tells it apart from bearings with the same diameters.
