Makes a full favicon and app icon set from a logo image or one or two letters: every size from 16 to 512 px, a favicon.ico, an apple-touch-icon and a manifest in one download, for a new site or an app added to a home screen.
How to use
- Under "Make from", choose "Letters" or "Image". Type one or two characters under "Letters", or drop an image file or press "Load example".
- Adjust "Background shape", "Background color" and "Padding"; the preview updates at once. Images can also use "Transparent background".
- "App or site name" and "Short name" go into site.webmanifest. For Android, turn on "Also make maskable icons".
- Press "Save as zip", upload the files to the root of your site, then copy the "HTML head snippet" into the head element.
How it works
- A 512 px master is drawn first and halved step by step into the 16, 32, 48, 180, 192 and 512 px PNGs, so thin lines stay crisp at small sizes.
- favicon.ico holds the 16, 32 and 48 px PNGs inside the ICO container; current browsers read PNG data inside an ICO directly.
- A maskable icon keeps its content inside the central 80% safe zone, so Android can crop it to a circle or rounded square without cutting anything off.
- Images and text are processed in this browser only and never uploaded. Settings stay in this browser for the next visit.
Questions and answers
- What size should a favicon be?
- Browser tabs use 16 and 32 px, shortcuts 48 px, the iPhone home screen 180 px, and Android or PWA installs 192 and 512 px. This page makes all six at once.
- Do I still need a .ico file?
- It helps older browsers and clients that request /favicon.ico automatically. PNG links are included too, so current browsers prefer the PNG files.
- Which font is used for letter icons?
- A system font installed on your device, in the family you choose. Another device may draw the same family with a different font.
- Can the icon have a transparent background?
- Yes for images: turn on "Transparent background" and the PNG background is left empty. Letter icons always have a background color.
