SVG Optimizer (Clean Up & Shrink SVG Files)

Paste or upload an SVG to strip metadata, comments and editor data, round decimals and shrink the file, with a before/after size comparison and preview. Scripts and external references are removed

Loading the tool…

An SVG exported from Inkscape or Illustrator carries editor data, comments and coordinates with many decimals, so the file is larger than the drawing needs. Paste the code or drop the file to strip that noise, see the bytes saved and compare the drawing before and after.

How to use

  1. Paste code into "SVG code" or drop .svg files on the box below it.
  2. Choose what to remove under "Options". The defaults do not change the drawing; "Remove title and desc" and "Remove ids that nothing references" are off until you need them.
  3. Lower "Decimal places" to shorten coordinates; one or two places are enough for icons.
  4. Check that "Preview before" and "Preview after" match, then press "Copy" or "Save SVG". With several files, "Save all as ZIP" downloads them together.

How it works

Questions and answers

Why is an SVG so much bigger than the drawing looks?
Editors store zoom level, layer names, metadata and coordinates with six to eight decimals. In a simple icon that is often more than half of the file, so cleanup usually saves 40 to 70 percent.
Can the drawing change after cleanup?
The default options only remove items that do not affect rendering. Rounding to 0 or 1 decimal can shift lines in very small drawings, so compare the two previews.
Why are title and desc kept by default?
Screen readers read them to describe the image. For a purely decorative SVG you can switch on "Remove title and desc".
Does it give the same result as SVGO?
No. It does only safe cleanups such as metadata removal and rounding, not path merging, but it needs no installation and the result can be checked by eye.
