Hold a coin or button cell against the screen to tell CR2032 from CR2025 and other sizes

Hold a used coin or button cell against the screen and match the circle to find cells of that diameter, such as CR2032, CR2025 or LR44. Use it when the marking on an old cell has worn off.
How to use
- On your first visit, press "Calibrate screen" and match the screen to a card or a coin.
- Lay the cell against the left and bottom guide lines and adjust until the yellow circle matches its edge.
- When candidates of the same diameter appear, stand the cell on its edge against the real-size bars and pick the one with the same thickness.
- Under "Size tables", check the sizes and voltages for "Lithium coin (CR)", "Silver oxide & alkaline button" and "Zinc-air hearing aid".
How it works
- Names follow IEC 60086. CR2032 means C (lithium manganese dioxide), R (round), 20 mm diameter and 3.2 mm thickness.
- Sizes are nominal values from manufacturers' documents checked in October 2026. A screen cannot measure thickness, and 0.5 mm is hard to see, so read the marking on the cell as well.
- The tool gives sizes and markings only and does not judge whether one cell can replace another. Use the cell named in the device manual or in the battery compartment.
- Coin and button cells are very dangerous if swallowed. Keep them out of reach of children, and go to an emergency room straight away if one may have been swallowed.
Questions and answers
- What is the difference between CR2032 and CR2025?
- Both are 20 mm across; only the thickness differs. CR2032 is 3.2 mm, CR2025 is 2.5 mm and CR2016 is 1.6 mm. Check the device manual for the right one.
- Are LR44 and SR44 the same battery?
- They are the same size (11.6 mm across, 5.4 mm thick) but different types: LR44 is alkaline (1.5 V) and SR44 is silver oxide (1.55 V).
- How are hearing aid battery sizes told apart?
- By the color of the pack and the pull tab: size 10 is yellow, 312 brown, 13 orange and 675 blue.
