Keyboard Test

Press keys to light them up on an on-screen keyboard and find dead or stuck keys

Loading the tool…

Lights up each key you press on an on-screen keyboard, so you can find keys that do not respond, keys that stay down and how many keys register at once. Use it when a new keyboard arrives, after a spill or before you buy a used laptop.

How to use

  1. Set "Layout" (ANSI or ISO) and "Size" ("Full size" or "Tenkeyless") to match your keyboard.
  2. Click the page once, then press the keys one by one. A key is highlighted while held, and keys pressed at least once stay coloured.
  3. Keys that are still uncoloured did not respond. "Last key (key)", "Physical position (code)" and "keyCode" show the signal of the last key.
  4. Press several keys together to read "Most keys at once", and press "Reset" to start again.

How it works

Questions and answers

How do I check if a key on my keyboard is not working?
Press every key once, then look for keys that are not coloured. "Keys tested" shows how many keys have been pressed so far.
How do I test keyboard rollover?
Hold several keys down at the same time and read "Most keys at once". If the number is lower than the keys you are holding, some keys in that combination are not registered.
Why do the Fn key and PrintScreen not show up?
The Fn key is handled inside the keyboard and sends no signal to the computer. PrintScreen and the Windows key can be taken by the operating system before the browser sees them, so this does not mean they are broken.
