Parking Fee Calculator
Work out a parking charge from the car park's rates and your entry and exit times
Loading the tool…
Calculates a parking charge from the rates posted at a car park and your entry and exit times, and shows each step of the working. It helps you check a charge, or decide how long you can stay before the fee goes up.
How to use
- In "Rate card", enter the car park's rates: "Free period", "Base period" and "Base fee", then the "Fee per period" after it and the "Daily maximum".
- Add night or weekend prices under "Time bands: night, weekend (optional)" if the car park has them.
- Under "Your stay", enter the "Entry" and "Exit" times, or switch to "Length of stay". Add free time or a discount from a receipt if you have one.
- Read the "Parking fee", the time until the fee goes up and the table under "How the fee was worked out".
- Press "Save as a new card" to keep the rates of a car park you use often.
How it works
- A stay no longer than the free period costs nothing. Otherwise the base fee covers the base period and each further period is charged in full or, with "Not charged", only when complete.
- The daily maximum applies to each 24 hours from entry or to each calendar date, as you choose. Free time is taken off the start of the stay; a percentage discount is taken off the total.
- No real car-park rates are built in; the example card uses made-up values. Rate cards are saved only in this browser.
Questions and answers
- How do I calculate a parking fee charged per 10 minutes?
- Take off the base period, divide the rest by 10 minutes and round up. With 1,000 for the first 30 minutes and 500 per 10 minutes, 2 hours 20 minutes costs 1,000 + 11 × 500 = 6,500.
- What happens to the fee after midnight?
- With "Each 24 hours from entry" the daily maximum restarts 24 hours after entry; with "Each calendar day" it restarts at midnight. The table shows each period separately.
- How long can I stay for the same price?
- The result shows when the fee next goes up and the latest exit time for the current fee.
- Is a monthly pass cheaper?
- Enter the "Monthly pass price". The result shows how many days at the current fee the pass is worth.
