Business Days Calculator
Count working days between two dates or find the date N business days away, skipping weekends and holidays
Loading the tool…
Counts the working days between two dates, leaving out weekends and holidays, and finds the date a given number of business days before or after a start date. Use it to turn a deadline such as "within 10 business days" into a calendar date.
How to use
- On "Business days between dates", pick the start and end dates; the count appears at once.
- To get a date instead, open "Date N business days away" and enter the start date, the number of business days and the direction.
- Under "Days off", change the weekly days off, and list public or company holidays under "Add your own days off".
- To repeat the calculation in a spreadsheet, press "Copy formula" and paste it into a cell.
How it works
- A business day is any day that is not a weekly day off (Saturday and Sunday by default), a holiday or a day you added. A holiday that falls on a weekend is left out only once.
- No public holidays are built in on this page, because they differ by country and region; add the ones that apply to you.
- With "Count the start date as day 1" switched off, counting starts on the next business day, as Excel's WORKDAY does.
Questions and answers
- What date is 3 business days from today?
- Count the next three working days after today. From a Monday that is Thursday; from a Friday it is the following Wednesday, because the weekend is skipped.
- Is Saturday a business day?
- Usually not. Banks, public offices and most contracts treat Monday to Friday as business days. If your workplace is open on Saturdays, switch Saturday off under "Weekly days off".
- How many business days are in a month?
- Between 20 and 23 when there are no holidays. Press "This month" to see the count for the current month.
- Does it give the same result as NETWORKDAYS in Excel?
- Yes, when both the start and end dates are counted and the same holidays are used. The formula on the page carries your current days off and holidays.
