Scientific Calculator
A scientific calculator with trig, logs, powers and history
Loading the tool…
A scientific calculator for trigonometry, logarithms, powers, roots, factorials, permutations and combinations. You type the whole expression on one line and can load earlier calculations from the history, which helps with math and science work.
How to use
- Type the expression in "Expression" with the keypad or the keyboard, then press "=" or Enter. Esc clears everything.
- Before using trigonometric functions, check the angle unit. Each press of the "DEG" key switches between DEG, RAD and GRAD, and the key shows the current unit.
- Press "2nd" for second functions such as sin⁻¹, eˣ and 10ˣ, and "hyp" for hyperbolic functions such as sinh.
- Click an earlier expression under "History" to load it again. Binary, octal and hexadecimal conversions are on the "Base converter" tab.
How it works
- Use log(x, base) for a logarithm in any base, root(x, n) for an n-th root, and nPr(n, r) and nCr(n, r) for permutations and combinations. 3E8 means 3 × 10⁸.
- Results are rounded to the "Display digits" setting (12 significant digits by default), so 0.1 + 0.2 shows as 0.3.
- The history (last 50 calculations), the memory value and the angle unit are saved only in this browser on this device.
Questions and answers
- Why does sin 30 not give 0.5?
- In RAD mode, 30 is read as 30 radians. Press the angle key until it shows DEG, and sin(30) gives 0.5.
- What is the difference between log and ln?
- log is the base-10 logarithm and ln is the natural logarithm with base e (about 2.71828). log(100) = 2 and ln(e) = 1.
- How do I find a cube root or an n-th root?
- Press "2nd" and then ∛, or type root(27, 3). root(27, 3) gives 3.
- What do the M+ and MR keys do?
- M+ adds the current value to memory, M− subtracts it, MR puts the memory value into the expression and MC clears the memory.
