Paste spreadsheet data to draw a box plot, histogram, scatter plot, line, bar, Pareto chart or normal probability plot, then save it as PNG or SVG.
How to use
- Copy columns from a spreadsheet and paste them under "Data". If the first row is text, it is used as column names.
- Choose the "Chart type" and pick the columns it needs, such as "X column" and "Y column".
- Switch on options such as "Show the mean" or "Trend line", and change titles, axis ranges and colors under "Title, axes and colors".
- Press "Save PNG (2× resolution)" or "Save SVG".
How it works
- Box plot whiskers reach up to 1.5 times the interquartile range (IQR); values beyond that are drawn as outlier points.
- For histograms, "Automatic" bins use whichever of the Freedman–Diaconis and Sturges rules gives more bins. The scatter plot trend line is the least-squares line y = a + bx.
- A Pareto chart draws bars from the largest count down with a cumulative percentage line. If the data does not fit the chart type, the page says what is needed.
Questions and answers
- How do I make a box plot from spreadsheet data?
- Put each group in its own column, paste them and choose "Box plot". If one column holds group names, use "Groups" to split by its values.
- What data does a Pareto chart need?
- A text column of category names and a column of counts, such as defect type and count. Without counts, it can count how often each name appears.
- Can a scatter plot show a trend line and R²?
- Switch on "Trend line" and "Show the equation and R²" to draw the line with its equation and the coefficient of determination. At least 3 points are needed.
- What does a normal probability plot show?
- It is a visual check of whether data follows a normal distribution. The closer the points lie to the straight line, the closer the data is to normal.
