Loading the tool…

Enter any two of cost, selling price, profit, margin and markup to get the rest. It can also take out a sales fee, VAT and shipping to show what you really keep, and find the price for a target margin.

How to use

  1. Choose the "Currency" and the pair you know under "The two values you know", such as "Cost + price".
  2. Enter the two values; the selling price, cost, profit, margin and markup appear.
  3. Under "Real profit (optional)", enter the "Sales fee" and "Shipping (paid by you)", and switch on "Price includes VAT" if your price contains VAT.
  4. Enter a "Target real margin" to get the price that leaves it after fee, VAT and shipping, or a "Quantity" to get the total profit.

Questions and answers

What is the difference between margin and markup?
Margin is profit as a share of the selling price; markup is profit as a share of the cost. When there is a profit, the markup is always the larger number.
What price gives a 30% margin on a cost of 70?
Price = cost ÷ (1 − margin), so 70 ÷ 0.7 = 100. Adding 30% to the cost gives 91, a 30% markup but only about a 23% margin.
How do you calculate profit margin?
(Selling price − cost) ÷ selling price × 100. Selling at 120 with a cost of 90 gives 30 ÷ 120 × 100 = 25%.
How much is left after a marketplace fee?
Enter the fee percentage in "Sales fee"; "What you really keep" then shows the real profit and real margin. Fees differ by marketplace, so check yours.
