Bill Splitter
List who paid what and get the fewest transfers that settle everyone up
Loading the tool…
Collects what each person paid on a trip or a shared dinner and lists who should send how much to whom, using the fewest transfers. Expenses can be split equally, among some people only, or by shares.
How to use
- Under "People", enter the names and press "+ Add person" if you need more.
- For each item under "Expenses", enter what it was, the amount and who it was "Paid by". Choose "Several people paid" if needed.
- If only some people took part or the split is uneven, press "Change the split", pick who it was "Shared by" and choose "Equally", "Exact amounts" or "By shares".
- Read "Transfers" and "Per person", then share the result with "Copy as text", "Copy link" or "Save as image".
How it works
- Each balance is what a person paid minus their share. People who are owed are matched with people who owe. With more than 18 people holding a balance the number of transfers may not be the minimum, but the amounts are exact.
- Transfers are rounded to the step chosen under "Round transfers to", and "Rounding leftovers" shows who pays a little more or less.
- There is no currency conversion. For spending in another currency, enter the converted amount.
- Groups are saved in this browser on this device. A copied link carries the whole split, so whoever opens it sees the same result.
Questions and answers
- How do you split a bill evenly?
- Divide the total by the number of people. Anyone who paid more than that share gets money back, and anyone who paid less sends the difference. If 4 people spent 120 and one paid it all, the other three each send 30.
- How do I leave someone out of one expense?
- Press "Change the split" on that expense and remove the person under "Shared by". The cost is then split among the others only.
- How do I split when one person had a double portion?
- Choose "By shares" and give that person 2 and the others 1. With 4 shares in total, that person pays half of the expense.
- How can a group settle up with fewer transfers?
- Settle only the balances instead of paying each other back for every item. The list of transfers is built to use as few payments as possible.
