Prorated Rent Calculator

Rent for a partial month from the move-in or move-out date, by the day

Loading the tool…

Works out the rent and other monthly charges for part of a month, for example when you move in on the 18th or move out mid-month. Long date ranges are split into monthly rent periods and each one is shown.

How to use

  1. Choose "Move-in month", "Move-out month" or "Any date range" and enter the date or dates.
  2. Set "Rent is due on day" to the day your rent period starts (1 for calendar months).
  3. Enter the "Monthly rent" and, if you pay them, "Other monthly charges". The amount for the period appears at once.
  4. Pick a "Daily rate method", compare the three methods in the table, and use "Settling up" to see what is refunded or still to pay.

How it works

Questions and answers

How do I calculate prorated rent for a move-in date?
Divide the monthly rent by the number of days in that month and multiply by the days you live there. Moving in on 18 October with rent of 1,600 gives 1,600 ÷ 31 × 14 = 722.58.
Which method gives the lowest amount?
It depends on the month. In a 31-day month the 30-day method costs the most per day; in February the actual-days method costs the most per day. The comparison table shows all three for your dates.
Is the move-out day included?
By default yes, both the first and the last day count. Untick "Count the move-out day as a rent day" if your lease ends the day before you hand over the keys.
What if my rent is due on the 15th?
Set the due day to 15. Each rent period then runs from the 15th to the 14th of the next month, and the daily amount uses that period's length.
