Record your screen, a window or a tab and save the video, with no install. Desktop browsers only
Loading the tool…
Records your computer screen, one window or one browser tab and saves it as a video file, with no program to install. Use it for how-to videos, online lessons or to capture an error.
How to use
- Choose the options: "Include system or tab sound", "Include microphone", "Show webcam in a corner", "Resolution", "Quality" and "File format".
- Press "Start recording" and choose the screen, window or tab in the browser's dialog. For sound, also turn on "Share audio" there.
- Recording starts after a 3-second countdown and shows the time and file size. Use "Pause" and "Resume" as needed.
- Press "Stop recording" to see a preview, enter a "File name" and press "Download".
How it works
- It works only in desktop browsers such as Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Phones and tablets get a message instead.
- "Quality" sets the video bitrate: Low about 2.5 Mbps, Standard about 5 Mbps, High about 10 Mbps. File size is roughly bitrate × duration ÷ 8.
- Only the MP4 or WebM formats this browser can record are listed. The video is made on this device and is never uploaded.
- The video is kept in memory while recording, so split recordings longer than 30 minutes.
Questions and answers
- How do I record my screen with sound?
- Turn on "Include system or tab sound" and, in the sharing dialog, "Share audio". Some browsers and systems allow only tab sound or none.
- How large is a 10-minute screen recording?
- At "Standard" (about 5 Mbps) it is about 38 MB per minute, or about 380 MB for 10 minutes. It varies with how much the picture moves.
- Why does my WebM file not play properly in some players?
- Some players cannot show the full length of a WebM file or skip through it. Play it in Chrome or VLC, or record in MP4 if the list offers it.
- Can I record my screen on a phone?
- No. Phone and tablet browsers do not let web pages record the screen. Use the phone's built-in screen recorder.
