Blood Type Personality & Inheritance

Blood type personality folklore and compatibility, plus which blood types a child can inherit

Loading the tool…

Shows the popular personality stories and a compatibility chart for blood types A, B, O and AB as entertainment, and calculates which blood types a child can inherit from the parents' types, with probabilities.

How to use

  1. On "Personality (for fun)", choose a type under "Choose a blood type" to read what people often say about it.
  2. Tap a cell of the "Blood type compatibility chart" to read about that pair.
  3. On "Inheritance", choose "Parents → child" and enter the "ABO type" and "Rh type" of both parents. If you know a genotype, choose it under "Genotype (if known)".
  4. Choose "Child + one parent → other parent" to see which types the other parent can have.

Questions and answers

What blood type will a child have if one parent is A and the other is B?
Any of A, B, O and AB is possible. If the parents are AO and BO, each type has a 25% chance.
Can parents with types AB and O have a type O child?
Not under the usual rules: the child is type A or type B, 50% each. If a family has such a case, a rare variant such as cis-AB may explain it.
If both parents are type O, is the child always type O?
Under the usual rules, yes. If both parents are also Rh−, the child is Rh− as well.
Is there a real link between blood type and personality?
No link has been confirmed. An analysis of large surveys of more than 10,000 people in Japan and the United States (Nawata, 2014) found no meaningful relationship. Read the personality tab for fun only.
