Tip Calculator
Tip, total and each person's share from the bill, tip percentage and number of people
Loading the tool…
Works out the tip, the total and each person's share wherever a tip is added to the bill, and shows what percentage you leave when you pay a round amount.
How to use
- Enter the "Bill amount" from the receipt.
- Pick a tip with the buttons (10% to 25%) or type your own under "Tip", then set "People".
- Read the tip, the "Total with tip" and each person's share.
- Open "Tax, rounding and currency" to tip on the amount before tax, round the total or each share, or change the currency.
- Under "Find the tip % from the total you pay", type what you want to hand over.
How it works
- Tip = tip base × tip % ÷ 100. The base is the bill, or the bill minus the tax you enter when "Tip on the amount before tax" is on. No tax rate is applied.
- Amounts are worked out in cents, so the shares always add up to the total; when it does not divide evenly, some people pay one cent more.
- After rounding, the tip is the rounded total minus the bill, and "Actual tip after rounding" shows its percentage.
- Tipping customs differ by country and business, so no percentage is suggested for a place.
Questions and answers
