Travel Budget Calculator

Plans what a trip will cost from items such as flights, lodging and food, and gives the total, the cost per person and per day. During the trip you can log what you actually spend and compare it with the plan.

How to use

1. Press "New trip", enter the people and the dates (or the nights and days) and choose the "Budget currency".
2. If you will pay in a local currency, press "+ Add a currency" and type its rate.
3. On the "Budget" tab, add items or insert a template, and set each item's category, how it is "Counted", amount and currency.
4. Read the trip total, the per-person and per-day figures and the totals by category; enter a "Budget limit" to see what is left or over.
5. On "Actual spending", add what you spend each day to see how much of the budget is used.

How it works

• Item total = amount × count, where count is 1 (total), the number of people, nights, days, or people × days. Foreign amounts are converted with your rate: amount × rate ÷ per.
• No live rates are used; items in a currency without a rate are left out of the total and marked.
• Templates insert item names only, with no amounts. "Copy table", "Save as CSV" and "Print" export the budget.
• Trips and spending records stay in this browser on this device.

Questions and answers

How do I calculate the cost per person for a trip?

Add all costs, counting shared costs once, and divide by the number of people. Here, items counted per person are multiplied by the number of people first, so the per-person figure is correct.

How many days is a 3-night trip?

Usually 4 days: days = nights + 1. Picking the start and end dates fills both in.

How much emergency money should I plan?

There is no fixed rule. Add an "Emergency fund" item with an amount you choose; the category chart shows its share of the total.

Can I plan in two currencies at once?

Yes. Each item has its own currency, and everything is added up in the budget currency using the rates you typed.
