Crop a photo into a circle or rounded square and save it for your profile
Loading the tool…
Crops a photo to a circle, a rounded square or a square and saves it as a profile picture with a transparent outside. Use it to make the profile picture or avatar for a chat app, a forum or a work account.
How to use
- Drop a photo onto the box or click to choose one.
- Choose the "Frame shape", drag the photo and zoom with the wheel or two fingers to place the face on the guide. If part of the frame is empty, press "Fill the frame".
- If you want, set the "Border width", its color and the background. The small previews show how it looks at small sizes.
- Choose the size and "File format", then press "Save profile picture".
How it works
- PNG and WebP keep the area outside the frame transparent. JPG has no transparency, so that area is filled with the background color, or white if transparent was chosen.
- The saved size is a square of 180, 400, 512, 800 or 1080 px, or any size from 16 to 4096 px that you enter.
- Previews from 128 px down to 24 px are shown side by side. Because many services crop profile pictures into a circle, the circle preview is on by default.
- Photos are not uploaded; they are processed on this device.
Questions and answers
- How do I crop a picture into a circle?
- Open the photo, keep "Frame shape" on "Circle", adjust the position and size, and save as PNG. The area outside the circle is saved as transparent.
- Why is the outside of my circle white?
- JPG cannot store transparency, so the outside is filled with white or the background color. Change "File format" to PNG or WebP.
- What size should a profile picture be?
- The required size differs by service. If you do not know it, save at a generous size such as 512 px or 800 px. A large picture stays sharp when it is reduced, but a small one looks blurry when enlarged.
- Can I straighten a tilted photo?
- Yes. Use the 90° rotation buttons, or the "Rotation" slider for small corrections.
