Word Cloud Generator
Paste text and get a word cloud of its most frequent words
Loading the tool…
Counts how often each word appears in a text and draws a word cloud in which the most frequent words are the largest. Use it to show the main words of survey answers, an article or a speech.
How to use
- Paste your text under "Paste text", or choose "Word, count table" and write one "word, number" pair per line.
- Choose the "Shape", "Aspect ratio", "Most words", "Rotation" and "Color theme".
- Open the "Word table" and untick any word you want to leave out.
- Press "New layout" for a different arrangement.
- Press "Save PNG" or "Save SVG" to download the picture.
How it works
- Words are split by the browser, so Japanese and Chinese text without spaces can be counted too. Upper and lower case count as the same word.
- "Leave out stopwords" drops weak words such as "the" and "and", using the editable "Stopword list". "Strip Korean particles" counts Korean words without their particles.
- At 4:3 the picture is 1000 × 750 pixels, and a double-resolution PNG is 2000 × 1500 pixels. Your text never leaves this device.
Questions and answers
- How do I remove common words like "the" and "and"?
- Keep "Leave out stopwords" on; a default list is already filled in. Add words to the "Stopword list", or untick words in the "Word table".
- Why are some words missing from the cloud?
- When space runs out, the smallest words are left out; the line under the picture shows how many were placed. Lower "Most words" or choose the "Rectangle" shape to fit more.
- Can I get the same layout again?
- Yes. The same "Layout number" with the same settings always gives the same layout, so note the number of a layout you like.
- Should I save as PNG or SVG?
- Use PNG for documents and social media posts, and SVG when the picture must stay sharp at any size. SVG keeps the words as text, so the look can change slightly with the fonts of the device that opens it.
