What Should I Eat? Meal Picker
Random lunch or dinner idea with filters for cuisine and mood
Loading the tool…
Picks a meal at random when you cannot decide what to eat. It chooses from about 200 lunch and dinner ideas, such as American, Italian, Mexican and Indian dishes, and can give one pick, three options or an eight-way tournament.
How to use
- Under "How to choose", select "Pick one", "Three options" or "Tournament".
- Under "Filters", choose the "Meal". Tap a "Cuisine" or "Features" button once to require it (+) and twice to exclude it (−).
- Press "Pick a meal"; meal names cycle and then stop. In a tournament, keep choosing the one you prefer from each pair.
- Record your choice with "I'll have this". With "Leave out recent meals" set, it will not come up again for a few days.
How it works
- The result is decided with the browser's cryptographic random number generator before the names start to cycle, and every matching meal has the same chance. The page shows how many meals match your filters.
- Under "Add or remove your own meals" you can add dishes from places you like, and "Don't suggest this again" removes meals you do not want.
- The tool does not search for nearby restaurants. Your records, added meals and filters are saved only in this browser on this device.
Questions and answers
- Can it leave out what I ate yesterday?
- Yes. Press "I'll have this" on a result to record it, then choose 1, 2, 3 or 7 days under "Leave out recent meals". Meals eaten in that period are not suggested.
- Can I get only vegetarian or only spicy ideas?
- Yes. Under "Features", tap "Vegetarian option" or "Spicy" once so it shows +, and only meals with that feature are picked. Tap twice to exclude it instead.
- How does the food tournament work?
- Choose "Tournament" and press "Start tournament" to draw eight options. Choose one from each pair through the round of 8, the semi-finals and the final to get the winner.
