Org Chart Maker
Type names, titles and who reports to whom to draw an organization chart
Loading the tool…
Draws an organization chart from names, titles, departments and reporting lines, and saves it as PNG or SVG or prints it.
How to use
- On "Indented list", write 'Name, Title, Department' on each line and indent the people below someone. To see how it works first, press "Load example".
- Or fill in "Name", "Title", "Department" and "Manager" on "Table", or paste spreadsheet cells under "Paste from a spreadsheet · CSV".
- Tap a box in the chart to edit the name and title, use "Add a report" or "Add beside", or delete it.
- Under the options, set the "Direction", "Box width", what to show and "Color by department".
- Export with "Save PNG", "Save SVG" or "Print", and press "Save file" to edit it again later.
How it works
- Write 'Vacant' as the name, or turn on "Mark as vacant", to show an open position.
- In the list, start a line with ~ to join it to the manager with a dotted line, for example for an acting post, and add ', @Name' to draw an extra dotted line to that person.
- "Stack large teams vertically" makes the chart narrower when a manager has many reports without reports of their own. Up to 600 boxes are drawn.
- Names and titles are saved only in this browser and are never sent anywhere.
Questions and answers
- Can I make an org chart from an Excel list?
- Yes. Copy the columns name, title, department, manager and dotted-line manager, in that order, and paste them. A header row is skipped.
- How do I set who reports to whom?
- In the table, type the manager's name as it appears in the table, or leave it empty for a top box. In the indented list, the nearest line above with less indent is the manager.
- Can it show dotted-line reporting?
- Yes. Type a name in the "Dotted-line manager" column to join the two with a dotted line; separate several names with ;.
- What happens to the reports when I delete a box?
- They move up to the next manager above. The page asks you to confirm before deleting.
