Eisenhower Matrix
Sort your tasks into four boxes by urgent and important to decide what to do first
Loading the tool…
Sorts your tasks into four boxes by two questions, urgent or not and important or not, so you can decide what to do first, what to schedule, what to hand over and what to drop.
How to use
- Write one task per line in the box at the top, choose "Add to" and press "Add". You can paste several lines at once.
- If you are unsure, open "Not sure which box?" and answer the two questions with "Yes" or "No"; the suggested box is set in "Add to".
- Drag the ⠿ handle to move a task to another box or another place in the same box. Tap a task to add a due date or a note.
- Tick finished tasks and press "Archive done tasks" to move them to the archive.
- Switch to "Priority list" to see everything in order, or use "Print", "Print blank form", "Save PNG" and "Copy as text".
How it works
- Important and urgent: do now. Important, not urgent: schedule. Urgent, not important: delegate. Neither: drop. Rename a box with the ✎ button.
- The priority list orders open tasks by box (do now first), then by the earliest due date, then by your own order; done tasks come last.
- With the keyboard, use ↑↓ on a handle to reorder and Shift+arrow to move a task to the neighbouring box.
- Boards and tasks are saved only in this browser and are never sent anywhere.
Questions and answers
- What is the Eisenhower matrix?
- A time management method that places tasks in a 2×2 grid by urgency and importance. It helps you plan important work before it becomes urgent.
- How do I tell urgent from important?
- A task is urgent when its deadline is days away and it needs action now. It is important when it affects your goals or responsibilities. Answer the two questions separately and the box follows.
- Can I keep work and personal tasks apart?
- Yes. Press "New board" to add another board and switch between boards with the list at the top. Each board can have its own box names.
- Can I print an empty template?
- Press "Print blank form" to print the four boxes with empty check lines on A4 or Letter in landscape.
