Merge Excel & CSV Files
Combine several Excel or CSV files and sheets into one, matching columns by header
Loading the tool…
Combines several Excel or CSV files and sheets into one table, matching columns by header name, or collects the sheets into one workbook. It can also split a large table into several files.
How to use
- On "Merge", drop several .xlsx, .xls, .csv or .tsv files at once.
- Under "Files and sheets", select the sheets, then choose a "Method": "Stack rows below each other" or "Collect sheets into one workbook".
- If needed, set the "Header row number", a source column, duplicate and empty row removal, and the column order.
- Check the "Preview", choose "Save as" (Excel or CSV) and press "Save".
- To split a table, open "Split", choose "Column value" or "Every N rows" and press "Download all as ZIP".
How it works
- Columns are matched by header name, ignoring case and extra spaces. A column missing from a file is left blank for that file's rows.
- Formulas become their values, and fonts, colours, borders and merged cells are not carried into stacked results. Codes with leading zeros stay text.
- "Add UTF-8 BOM" lets Excel open a CSV with non-English text without garbled characters.
- Files are processed on this device only and are never uploaded. Files over 100,000 rows can take tens of seconds; password-protected files cannot be read.
Questions and answers
- Can I merge Excel files whose columns are in a different order?
- Yes. Columns with the same header name are matched, so the order does not matter. A column found in only one file stays blank in the other files' rows.
- How do I combine several sheets into one sheet?
- Choose "Stack rows below each other". To keep the sheets separate in one file instead, choose "Collect sheets into one workbook", which saves as .xlsx only.
- Can I see which file each row came from?
- Yes. Under "Add a source column", choose the file name, the sheet name or both.
- Why does 00123 become 123 when I open the CSV?
- Excel converts it to a number when it opens a CSV. Turn on "Keep leading zeros" to save it as ="00123"; other programs will show the = sign.
