A just-for-fun chart that guesses boy or girl from the mother's lunar age and the lunar month of conception
Loading the tool…
A just-for-fun tool that looks up the traditional Chinese gender chart with the mother's lunar age and the lunar month of conception. It has no scientific basis, and the chance that it is right is one in two.
How to use
- Pick the "Mother's date of birth".
- Under "How to enter the pregnancy date", choose "From the due date" or "From the conception date" and enter the date.
- Read "What the chart says (for fun)" and check the lunar conversion and lunar age under "How it was worked out".
- See your cell highlighted in "The traditional chart".
How it works
- Lunar age = lunar year of conception − lunar year of the mother's birth + 1. A year is added at each lunar new year.
- A conception in a leap month counts as the ordinary month with the same number. With a due date, conception is taken as the due date minus 266 days.
- Several versions of the chart exist; this tool uses the one published on immihelp.com. The lunar calendar is the Korean one, which on rare days differs by one day from the Chinese one.
- This is entertainment only. Do not base any decision on the result.
Questions and answers
- Is the Chinese gender chart accurate?
- No. It has no scientific basis. Of its 336 cells, 162 say boy and 174 say girl, so it is about as reliable as a coin toss.
- How is the lunar age calculated?
- The year of birth counts as age 1 and a year is added at each lunar new year. A mother born on January 20, 1995 was born in lunar year 1994, so for a conception in May 2026 her lunar age is 33.
- Can I use my due date?
- Yes. Choose "From the due date" and the tool takes the conception date as the due date minus 266 days. The real date can differ by a few days, which matters near the start of a lunar month.
- What if the mother's age is not in the chart?
- The chart covers lunar ages 18 to 45 only. For other ages the tool shows a message instead of a result.
