Type numbers or text to create a barcode such as EAN-13, Code 128 or Data Matrix, and save it as PNG or SVG. Use it for stock labels, asset tags in a company or shipping carton marks.
How to use
- Under "Barcode type", choose from Retail (GTIN), General and in-house, Logistics or 2D codes.
- Enter the "Value". The allowed length and characters for the type are shown below the field, and an error explains what is wrong.
- Adjust "Bar height", "Scale", "Quiet zone" and the colors, then press "Save PNG" or "Save SVG".
- For many labels, set "How many" to "Many", put one value per line in "List of values", adjust the "Label sheet settings", and print or press "Save all PNGs as ZIP".
How it works
- For EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A and ITF-14 the last digit (check digit) is added or verified for you. Multiply the digits by 3, 1, 3, 1… from the right and add them; the amount needed to reach the next multiple of 10 is the check digit.
- Label sheets fit up to 8 columns and 20 rows on A4, Letter or A5 paper.
- Code 128 and other 1D barcodes accept only Latin letters, digits and symbols. Data Matrix, PDF417 and Aztec accept any text, but some scanners show non-Latin text garbled.
Questions and answers
- Can I put this barcode on products I sell?
- EAN and UPC numbers for retail products must be licensed from GS1 through your country's member organization. A number you make up may clash with another company's product.
- How is the EAN-13 check digit calculated?
- Multiply the first 12 digits by 3 and 1 in turn, starting from the right, and add them. For 400638133393 the sum is 89, so the check digit is 1 and the full code is 4006381333931.
- Why will my barcode not scan?
- Check that the "Quiet zone" is wide enough and that the bars and background have strong contrast. 1D barcodes need blank space on both sides.
- Can it make QR codes?
- No. The page links to a separate QR code tool.
