ZIP & Unzip
Pack files into a ZIP or pull files out of one, without uploading anything
Loading the tool…
Packs several files or folders into one ZIP file, and lists and extracts the files inside a ZIP you received. Use it when you need to zip or unzip something without installing a program.
How to use
- To pack, open "Make a ZIP" and drop files or folders onto the box, or press "Choose a folder".
- Set "Compression" and "ZIP file name", then press the "Make ZIP" button; the ZIP file downloads.
- To unpack, drop a ZIP file onto "Open a ZIP". The file names, sizes and dates appear in a list.
- Press "Download" next to the files you need. Images and text files can be checked first with "Preview".
How it works
- Dropped folders keep the same folder structure inside the ZIP. Photos, videos, PDFs and other already-compressed files are stored as they are, without compressing them again.
- Everything is held in the device's memory, so archives of several hundred MB or more may fail. Password-protected ZIP files and other formats such as 7z or RAR cannot be opened.
- Files are not sent anywhere outside the device.
Questions and answers
- Why are the file names garbled after unzipping?
- Older ZIP files sometimes store names in a regional encoding instead of UTF-8. Choose the right language under "File name encoding", then press "Save as ZIP with UTF-8 names" to get a new ZIP whose names show correctly on any computer.
- How much smaller does a file get when zipped?
- It depends on the file type. Text and documents shrink a lot, while photos and videos hardly shrink because they are already compressed. The sizes before and after are shown when the ZIP is made.
- Can I extract all files at once?
- No. Each file is saved separately with its "Download" button in the list.
- Can it open a password-protected ZIP?
- No. Password-protected files are marked "Password" in the list and cannot be downloaded.
