Barcode & QR Code Reader
Read QR codes, barcodes and 2D codes from an image or your camera — handy for a QR on your computer screen
Loading the tool…
Reads QR codes and barcodes from an image file, a pasted screenshot or your camera and shows what they contain. Use it to read a QR code shown on your computer screen, or a barcode in a photo, without a phone.
How to use
- Drop an image with a QR code or barcode, or click to choose one. A screenshot can be pasted directly with Ctrl+V.
- For a printed code press "Scan with camera"; for a code on your computer screen press "Read from screen" (shown only in browsers that support it).
- Check the type and content under "Codes found" and copy it. A web address opens only when you press "Open in new tab" after checking the site.
- If nothing is found, turn on "Search more thoroughly" and try again.
How it works
- It reads QR, Data Matrix, Aztec, PDF417, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, ITF and Codabar, and finds several codes in one image.
- Wi-Fi logins, contacts, events, emails, phone numbers and locations are split into fields. Product numbers get a check digit test and their GS1 prefix.
- Images are processed on this device only. "Recently read codes" keeps up to 50 codes in this browser on this device; you can turn it off or clear it. Authenticator setup codes are never kept.
Questions and answers
- How do I scan a QR code on my computer screen?
- Take a screenshot and paste it with Ctrl+V, or press "Read from screen" and pick a screen or window; one frame of it is read. Nothing is recorded.
- Do the first digits of a barcode show the country of origin?
- No. The GS1 prefix shows which GS1 member organization issued the number, that is, where the company registered. It is not the country where the product was made.
- Is it safe to open a link from a QR code?
- A QR code can lead to a fake site. Check the site name shown on the page, and take care when it warns about a numeric address or an unencrypted http connection.
