Add Watermark to PDF
Put a text or image watermark on every page of a PDF
Loading the tool…
Puts semi-transparent text such as CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT, or a logo image, on every page or on selected pages of a PDF and saves a new PDF. Use it to mark documents you send out or to show that a document is a draft.
How to use
- Drop the PDF file onto the page or click to choose it.
- Under "Watermark", choose "Text" or "Image or logo". For text, pick one of the "Common phrases" or type your own in "Text".
- Set the "Opacity", "Angle" and size, and choose "Once per page" or "Repeat across the page" under "Layout".
- Choose "Apply to" and "Layer", check the preview and press "Add watermark and save PDF".
How it works
- Text watermarks are drawn as a picture before they are added, so letters of many languages can be used, including Korean and Chinese.
- "Behind the content" keeps the text easier to read, but the watermark is hidden on pages with an opaque background, such as scanned pages.
- "Relative to each page" keeps the same proportion on pages of different sizes. The file is processed on this device only, and PDFs locked with a password or against changes cannot be opened.
Questions and answers
- How do I add a CONFIDENTIAL watermark to a PDF?
- Add the PDF and press CONFIDENTIAL under "Common phrases". The defaults are red, 25% opacity and a 45° angle, so you can press "Add watermark and save PDF" straight away.
- Can I use my company logo as a watermark?
- Yes. Choose "Image or logo" and add a PNG or JPG. A PNG with a transparent background looks best, and the image is kept in this browser for next time.
- Can the watermark repeat across the whole page?
- Yes. Choose "Repeat across the page" under "Layout" and adjust how close the copies are with "Space between repeats".
- Can I leave the first page without a watermark?
- Choose "Choose pages" under "Apply to" and type 2- in "Page range" to cover page 2 to the end. You can also choose only odd or only even pages.
