Free QR Code Generator — Wi-Fi & vCard

Make a static QR code for a link, Wi-Fi or vCard contact and save it as PNG or SVG. No sign-up, no watermark, never expires; add a logo or change the colors

Loading the tool…

This free QR code generator turns a web address, text, Wi-Fi login, contact card, email, phone number or SMS into a QR code that phone cameras open at once. There is no sign-up and no watermark, you can save it as PNG or SVG, and because it is a static QR code with the content stored in the code itself, it never expires. You can also set error correction, quiet zone, colors and a center logo, with warnings under the preview when contrast is low or the code gets too dense.

How to use

  1. Choose the kind of code from the tabs: "Link", "Text", "Wi-Fi", "Contact", "Email", "Phone" or "SMS".
  2. Enter the content and the QR code appears in the preview at once. A "Web address" typed without the https part, such as example.com, gets it added for you.
  3. For Wi-Fi, enter the "Network name (SSID)", "Password" and "Security", and turn on "Hidden network" if the name does not show up in the network list. For a business card, fill in "Last name", "First name", "Company", "Phone number", "Email" and so on under "Contact".
  4. Open "Options" to set the "Error correction", "PNG size", "Quiet zone", "Code color" and "Background color", and turn on "Transparent background" if you need it.
  5. To add a logo, press "Choose a logo image" and set "Logo size (% of code width)" between 10 and 30. Adding a logo switches error correction to H automatically.
  6. Check the version, size and warnings under the preview, and open "Content stored in the code" to see the exact text inside.
  7. Press "Save PNG", "Save SVG" or "Copy image". Before printing, scan it once with a phone camera to make sure it opens.

How it works

Static vs dynamic QR codes (why some QR codes expire)

A static QR code stores the content, such as a web address or Wi-Fi details, in the pattern itself. No server sits in between, so the code keeps working even if the site that made it shuts down. Every code made here is static.

A dynamic QR code holds a short link to the service that made it, which redirects to the real page. You can change the destination or count scans, but the code can stop working when a free trial ends or a subscription is cancelled. For flyers, business cards and signs used for years, static is safer; to change the content, make a new code and reprint.

How to make a Wi-Fi QR code, and what to watch out for

A Wi-Fi QR code holds a string in the form WIFI:T:WPA;S:network name;P:password;; and most recent iPhones and Android phones show a join prompt when the built-in camera scans it, so guests can connect without typing the password. If the network name or password contains a semicolon, comma, colon, double quote or backslash, the generator escapes it with a backslash as the format requires.

"Security" must match the router setting. Most current routers use WPA2 or WPA3, so "WPA/WPA2/WPA3" is the usual choice, and WEP is found only on old equipment. If the password or security type is wrong, the code scans but the connection fails.

Anyone who scans the code learns the password, so a shop or office should use a separate guest network. After a password change, the old code stops connecting and must be replaced.

Adding a logo to a QR code and choosing error correction

QR codes use Reed-Solomon error correction, so they still read when part of the code is covered or dirty. The recoverable share is about 7% at L, 15% at M, 25% at Q and 30% at H, and a higher level makes the same content denser. A logo in the middle relies on that margin by covering part of the code, so it needs level H, and the generator switches to H as soon as you add one.

The logo can be 10% to 30% of the code width, but a larger logo leaves less room for error. With long, dense content, keep the logo small and test with more than one phone before printing. When changing colors, keep a dark code on a light background; many apps cannot read inverted codes that are lighter than their background.

QR code print size, and PNG vs SVG

Choose the printed size by scanning distance. A common rule of thumb is a code width of about one tenth of the distance, so a poster scanned from 1 m needs a code about 10 cm wide. Even on a business card, codes much smaller than about 2 cm can become unreliable, and denser codes need to be printed larger.

SVG stays sharp at any size, which suits a print shop or design software. PNG is handier for documents, slides and messages, and "PNG size" lets you choose from 256 px to 4096 px. Either way, keep the standard 4-module quiet zone so the code does not blend into nearby text or graphics.

Questions and answers

Is this QR code generator really free?
Yes. You can save PNG and SVG files without signing up or a watermark, and there is no limit on scans or how long a code works.
Do these QR codes expire?
No. The content is inside the code, so it works even if this site goes away. A code holding a link stops being useful only if that web page is removed.
How do I make a QR code for Wi-Fi?
Choose "Wi-Fi" and enter the network name, password and security type. Guests can scan it with a phone camera and join without typing the password.
Can I edit a QR code after creating it?
No. A static QR code stores its content in the pattern, so if the address changes you need to make a new code.
How do I make a contact QR code for a business card?
Choose "Contact" and fill in "Last name", "First name", "Phone number", "Email" and so on. It is made as a vCard 3.0, which most phones can save straight to contacts after scanning.
Will a QR code with a logo in the middle still scan?
Usually, if error correction is set to H. The logo can be 10% to 30% of the code width, so start small and test with a phone before saving.
Is PNG or SVG better for printing?
SVG. It stays sharp at any size, so it suits print and design work, while PNG, up to 4096 px, is handier for documents and messages.
How much text can a QR code hold?
Up to 2,953 bytes at the largest version, 40, with level L, or 2,331 bytes at the default M. For long text, encode a link to a web page instead.
Why is my QR code not scanning?
Usually low contrast, inverted colors, a narrow quiet zone or too small a print. The generator warns about these; adjust until the warnings go away.
Is my Wi-Fi password stored on a server?
No. The code is made in your browser and nothing you enter is sent anywhere; your entries stay only in this browser on this device for next time.
