Recipe Scaler
Paste a recipe's ingredients, change the servings and get every amount recalculated
Loading the tool…
Rescales a whole ingredient list at once when you cook for more or fewer people, double a recipe, or have only part of one ingredient. Amounts are read from pasted text in eleven languages, so a recipe copied from a website or a message works as it is.
How to use
- Paste the ingredient list into "Ingredients (one per line)", or press "Load example" to see how it works.
- Under "Scale by", choose "Servings" and enter "Recipe serves" and "I want to serve", or choose "Multiplier", or "Amount I have" to match one ingredient.
- Read the list under "Scaled ingredients"; each changed line shows the original below it.
- Open "Number style and units" to switch between fractions and decimals, convert to metric or US units, or turn off "Tidy units".
- Press "Copy list" or "Print" to take the result with you.
How it works
- New amount = amount × factor; with servings the factor is people wanted ÷ people in the recipe. Ranges such as 2-3 are scaled at both ends.
- Lines without an amount ("salt to taste"), times and temperatures stay exactly as written. A line with a number that is not clearly an amount is kept and marked "Amount not recognized", never dropped.
- Unit conversion keeps volume as volume and weight as weight. A cup is 200, 236.6 or 250 mL depending on the setting "A cup in this recipe holds".
Questions and answers
- How do I halve a recipe?
- Choose "Multiplier" and press ×0.5. Two eggs become one, and 1 cup becomes ½ cup.
- What do I do with 1.5 eggs?
- Counted items keep their exact value and get a "Round to" note. Use the rounded number, or beat an extra egg and add half of it.
- Do cooking times change when I double a recipe?
- Not in proportion. A larger or deeper batch usually needs longer, so the tool leaves times alone and you check doneness.
- Can it turn cups of flour into grams?
- No, because the weight of a cup depends on the ingredient. Use the cooking measurement converter for that.
