Equation Editor

Write an equation, preview it, and take it away as an image (PNG, SVG) or LaTeX code

Loading the tool…

Type an equation in LaTeX, see it rendered at once, and take it away as a PNG or SVG image or as LaTeX or MathML code. Use it to put fractions, integrals or matrices into homework, slides or a Word document.

How to use

  1. Type in the "LaTeX" box, or click symbols such as fractions, roots and Greek letters under "Insert a symbol". Press Tab to jump to the next slot.
  2. Set the "Layout" ("Display" or "Inline"), "Font size", "Text color" and background ("Transparent" or "White").
  3. Press "Save PNG" or "Save SVG" for an image, or "Copy LaTeX", "Copy MathML" or "Copy image".
  4. You can also load an example from "Common equations", such as the quadratic formula, and edit it.

How it works

Questions and answers

Can I use it without knowing LaTeX?
Yes. Click a symbol on tabs such as "Basic", "Greek", "Calculus", "Matrices & cases" or "Chemistry", and its LaTeX code is inserted at the cursor. Then fill in the slots.
How do I put an equation into Word?
Press "Copy MathML" and paste in Word with "Keep text only"; it becomes an editable equation. For a picture, use "Save PNG" or "Copy image".
How do I write a fraction in LaTeX?
Write \frac{numerator}{denominator}. For example, \frac{1}{2} is one half, x^2 is x squared and \sqrt{x} is the square root of x.
Can I make an equation image with a transparent background?
Yes. Set the background to "Transparent" and press "Save PNG" or "Save SVG".
