Flag Quiz & Capitals Quiz
Guess the country from its flag and match countries with their capitals
Loading the tool…
A world geography quiz: guess the country from its flag, or match countries with their capitals. Use it to learn flags and capitals or to test yourself one continent at a time.
How to use
- On the "Quiz" tab, choose a "Question type", such as "Flag → pick the country" or "Country → pick the capital".
- Set the "Continent", the number of "Questions" (10, 20 or all) and the "Time per question" (none, 5, 10 or 20 seconds).
- After each answer the correct country and its capital appear; at the end, "Results" shows your score and the countries you missed.
- Retry the missed countries, or set "Countries asked" to "Ones I got wrong". Look things up on the "Flags and capitals" tab.
How it works
- Only the 193 UN member states are covered. UN membership is used as a neutral rule; other territories are not included.
- Countries with several capitals or a disputed capital have a note in the list. Nauru, which has no official capital, and Israel, whose capital's status is disputed, are not asked in the capital questions.
- "Flag → type the country" ignores capital letters, spaces and accents, and English names are always accepted.
- Flag images come from flag-icons (MIT licence), and country names from the browser's own data. Best records and missed countries are saved on this device.
Questions and answers
- How can I tell similar flags apart?
- The "Similar flags" tab gives a tip for each group. For example, Chad and Romania have almost the same blue, yellow and red stripes, but Chad's blue is darker.
- What about countries with more than one capital?
- A note appears in the list and with the answer. South Africa, for example, has three capitals: Pretoria (executive), Cape Town (legislative) and Bloemfontein (judicial).
- Can I practise one continent only?
- Yes. Choose Africa, Asia, Europe, North and Central America with the Caribbean, South America or Oceania under "Continent".
- How are best records kept?
- A separate best record is saved for each combination of question type, continent, number of questions and time limit.
