Elevator Pitch Practice
Practise a one-minute self-introduction with a timer and recording
Loading the tool…
Practise a one-minute self-introduction for an interview with a timer and a recording. Paste your script to see an estimated speaking time; after you speak, it shows the time taken and your speaking rate.
How to use
- Paste your script into "Script (optional)" to see the "Estimated speaking time" and how it compares with the target.
- Choose a "Target time" from 30 s to 2 min, and switch on "Record while practising (microphone)" or "Hide the script (key words only)" if you want them.
- Press "Start" and speak. The timer changes color in the target zone and counts the time over the target.
- Press "Stop" to see the "Time taken" and your speaking rate, and play back the recording if you made one.
How it works
- Estimated time = script length ÷ base rate. English is counted in words and Korean, Japanese and Chinese in characters; the rate is shown on the page.
- The target zone is the last 10% before the target time, at least 3 seconds. Wrap key words in [[double brackets]] to see only those words when the script is hidden.
- A recording is kept only if you press "Save recording on this device" and is never uploaded. Your script and log stay in this browser, and the camera view is never recorded.
Questions and answers
- How many words is a one-minute self-introduction?
- This tool uses 130 words a minute for English, so one minute is about 130 words. Speaking speed differs, so record yourself and check the time.
- How do I know if I speak too fast?
- After an attempt with a script, the page shows your rate in words a minute and says whether it is slow, comfortable or fast.
- Can I practise without reading the script?
- Switch on "Hide the script (key words only)". Without marked key words, the first two words of each sentence are shown.
- Can I download my recording?
- After an attempt, press "Download" to save the audio file, or "Save recording on this device" to play it later.
