Converts a GPA between the 4.5, 4.3 and 4.0 scales and compares percentages, US letter grades, 10-point CGPA, German grades and UK degree classes. Use it for a reference value when an application asks for a grade on another scale.
How to use
- Choose a grading system in the tabs at the top, such as "4.5 · 4.3 · 4.0 GPA" or "10-point CGPA".
- On "4.5 · 4.3 · 4.0 GPA", choose "Your GPA is out of" and enter "Your GPA".
- Compare the results of the two methods, "Proportional" and "Letter match", or open "Show the full letter table".
How it works
- Proportional: GPA ÷ old maximum × new maximum. Letter match pairs the same letters (A+, A, B+ …) on both scales and joins the values in between with straight lines.
- Out of 100 is GPA ÷ maximum × 100. For the 4.5 scale the page also shows 55 + GPA × 10, a formula often used in Korea; schools differ.
- German grades use the modified Bavarian formula 1 + 3 × (Nmax − Nd) ÷ (Nmax − Nmin). The US percent table is editable and saved on this device.
- Institutions convert grades in different ways. All values are for reference; official conversions follow the receiving school or an evaluator such as WES.
Questions and answers
- How do I convert a 4.5 GPA to a 4.0 scale?
- A 4.0 out of 4.5 becomes 3.56 by proportion and 4.0 by letter match, because A+ and A are both 4.0 on the 4.0 scale.
- What is the difference between the 4.5 and 4.3 scales?
- The 4.5 scale steps by 0.5 (A+ 4.5, A 4.0, B+ 3.5); the 4.3 scale has minus grades (A+ 4.3, A 4.0, A− 3.7). A B+ is 3.5 on one and 3.3 on the other.
- How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
- The CBSE indicative formula is CGPA × 9.5, so 8.0 gives 76%. Other formulas such as (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 are shown under "Compare formulas".
- What letter grade is 88 percent?
- With the ± table (A 93, A− 90, B+ 87 …), 88% is a B+, or 3.3 points. Cutoffs differ by school, so the table is editable.
