Cube Timer and Scrambler

WCA-style scrambles for 2×2 to 5×5, Pyraminx, Skewb and Megaminx with a space-bar timer that keeps ao5, ao12 and ao100

Loading the tool…

A speedcubing timer with WCA-notation scrambles for 2×2 to 5×5, Pyraminx, Skewb and Megaminx, timing by space bar or by holding the screen, with ao5, ao12 and ao100 per puzzle.

How to use

  1. Pick a puzzle; a scramble appears at once. For cubes, check your cube against the net under "Scramble picture" (white on top, green in front). "Next scramble" makes a new one.
  2. Hold the space bar or the timer until it turns green (0.3 s), release to start, and press any key or the timer to stop. With "15 s inspection" on, the first press starts the inspection countdown.
  3. Mark the last solve "+2" or "DNF", or remove it with "Delete last solve"; the statistics and the trend chart update at once.
  4. "Save as CSV" exports the session; "Clear session" deletes the current puzzle's solves only.

Questions and answers

What does ao5 mean in cubing?
Average of 5. For 12.10, 10.50, 11.30, 15.80 and 9.90, drop 9.90 and 15.80; the mean of the other three, 11.30, is the ao5.
How are the scrambles generated?
In WCA notation (R, U', F2, Rw …), never turning the same face twice in a row. A 3×3 scramble of about 20 moves comes from a random position, so every position is equally likely.
What are the 8 and 12 second sounds?
They copy the judge's calls during inspection. Turn on "Sound at 8 s and 12 s" to hear them; they are off by default.
Does the cube timer work on a phone?
Yes. Hold the timer until it turns green, release to start, and tap to stop.
