Memory Card Match
Flip cards to find the matching pairs
Loading the tool…
A memory card game, also called concentration or pairs: turn over two face-down cards at a time and find the matching pairs. Play alone to improve your result, or take turns with a second player to see who finds more pairs.
How to use
- Under "Board size", choose 4×3, 4×4, 6×4 or 6×6.
- Under "Card faces", choose "Shapes", "Numbers" or "Letters", and under "Players", choose "Solo" or "2 players, taking turns".
- Turn over two cards. A matching pair stays face up; otherwise both cards turn back after a moment.
- When all pairs are found, the number of tries and the time appear. Press "New game" to play again.
How it works
- In solo play, fewer tries is better, and with the same number of tries a shorter time is better. The best result for each board size is saved in this browser.
- In 2-player mode, finding a pair earns another turn, and the player with more pairs wins.
- The card faces differ in both colour and shape, so they are easy to tell apart. With a keyboard, the arrow keys move and Enter or Space turns a card.
Questions and answers
- What is the trick to winning a memory card game?
- Use your first few turns to turn cards over in order from one side of the board and learn where they are, rather than trying to match. Remembering positions by row or area makes them easier to recall.
- What is the fewest number of tries possible?
- In theory, one try per pair. A 4×4 board has 8 pairs, so the minimum is 8 tries, which takes a lot of luck.
- Which settings are good for young children?
- Start with the 4×3 board and "Shapes" or "Numbers", then move up to 6×4 or 6×6. You can also play together with "2 players, taking turns".
- What happens if I close the page during a game?
- Your game is saved in this browser, so you can continue when you open the page again.
