Hangman

A hangman game in which you guess the hidden word one letter at a time. Instead of a drawing of a hanging figure, a balloon pops for each wrong guess.

How to use

1. Under "Topic", choose a topic such as animals, food or countries, or "Any topic".
2. Tap a letter on the on-screen keyboard or type it. Letters in the word appear in their places, and wrong letters are listed under "Wrong guesses".
3. When you are stuck, press "Show topic" or "Reveal a letter (costs a balloon)". When the word is solved or every balloon has popped, press "Next word".
4. To play with someone else, choose "2 players" under "Players". One person types the "Secret word" and presses "Hide the word and start", and the other guesses.

How it works

• There are 7 balloons. A solved word scores 10 points for each balloon left. Scores and streaks are saved in this browser.
• Each letter you guess is shown in every place where it appears in the word, so one good guess can fill several places.
• In languages that are hard to play letter by letter, the game uses English words and the A to Z keyboard, and the page says so.

Questions and answers

What are the rules of hangman?

You see only how many letters the word has and guess one letter at a time. You win if you complete the word before you run out of wrong guesses. On this page, the seventh wrong guess loses.

Which letters should I guess first in hangman?

In English, vowels such as E, A, I and O usually help most, followed by common consonants such as T, N, S and R.

How do I play hangman with two players?

Choose "2 players". The word setter types a word while the other player looks away, may add a hint, and hides the word. The guesser then plays as usual.

How is the two-player game scored?

If the guesser finds the word, the guesser gets 1 point. If every balloon pops, the word setter gets 1 point. The secret word can have up to 30 characters.
