Word Scramble Maker
Scramble the letters of your word list into a printable worksheet with an answer key
Loading the tool…
Mixes up the letters of words, or the words of sentences, into a printable worksheet with an answer key. Use it to review spelling words, vocabulary or word order in a game-like way.
How to use
- Under "Scramble", choose "Letters of words" or "Words of sentences".
- Enter one word or sentence per line. A meaning written after a colon (:) becomes the hint.
- Set the "Hint", "Difficulty", "Answer space", "Number of questions" and "Columns".
- Press "Print". With "Add an answer key page" on, the answers are printed on an extra page.
- On the "Solve on screen" tab, drag or tap the letter pieces into the boxes to solve the puzzles right away.
How it works
- If a scramble matches the original order or another answer in the list, it is mixed again. A word whose letters are all the same cannot be scrambled, and the page says so.
- Sentence mode mixes the words and keeps the end mark in place. Use / to set the pieces yourself.
- The same "Puzzle number" makes the same sheet again. Lists can be saved under a name on this device or saved to a file.
Questions and answers
- How do I make the puzzles easier or harder?
- Under "Difficulty", choose "Mix every letter", "Keep the first letter" or "Keep the first and last letters". "Print a word box with all the answers" makes it easier still.
- Can I choose capital or lower-case letters?
- Yes. When the words use the Latin alphabet, "Letter case" offers "CAPITALS", "lower case" or "As typed".
- Can I make a sentence order worksheet?
- Choose "Words of sentences" and enter the sentences. Write I / get up / at seven. to mix in those pieces.
- Can I paste a word list from a spreadsheet?
- Copy the word and meaning columns and paste them; the meanings become hints.
