Equation Worksheet Maker (Linear · Quadratic · Cubic · Quartic)
Generate linear, quadratic, cubic and quartic equation practice by grade level, with answer keys, to print or save as PDF
Loading the tool…
Makes printable equation practice sheets with an answer key, from missing-number problems to linear equations, systems of two equations, quadratics, and cubic and quartic equations. Teachers and tutors use it for handouts, homework and short quizzes.
How to use
- Choose a "Level" and, where offered, one or more "Problem types" such as "Factoring" or "Quadratic formula".
- Set "Roots" to "Integers only", "Up to fractions" or "Up to radicals (√)", and switch "Include parentheses and fractions" and "Put terms on both sides" on or off.
- Under "Sheet", set the "Number of problems" (1 to 100), "Columns", "Text size" and "Working space".
- Press "Make a new sheet" for different problems, then "Save as PDF" or "Print". The answer key pages follow the question pages.
How it works
- Each equation is built from its answer: the roots are chosen first and multiplied out, so every answer is a whole number, a fraction or a simple radical such as (3 ± √5)/2.
- The answer key is worked out again from the printed equation with exact fractions. With "Key step in the answer key" on, it also shows the factored form, the discriminant D = b² − 4ac or the simplified linear equation.
- Level names describe the content, not a school year. Level 6 covers cubic and quartic equations solved with the factor theorem or a substitution.
- The same "Sheet number" and settings always make the same sheet. Settings are kept in this browser.
Questions and answers
- How do I make a quadratic equations worksheet with whole-number answers?
- Choose "Level 4 · quadratic equations", keep only "Factoring" under "Problem types" and set "Roots" to "Integers only". Every equation then factors as k(x − p)(x − q) with whole numbers p and q.
- Can the worksheet include complex roots?
- Yes, at Levels 5 and 6. Turn off "No complex roots"; answers such as 1 ± 2i then appear and the instruction asks for solutions over the complex numbers.
- Does the answer key show full solutions?
- No. It shows every root, with double roots marked, and optionally one key step per problem.
- Can I use y or t instead of x?
- Yes. "Variable" switches between x, y and t for equations in one unknown. Systems always use x and y.
