Makes counting, addition and subtraction problems with pictures such as apples, tangerines, watermelons and candies, and prints them or saves them as a PDF with an answer key. It suits preschool and first-grade children who still find bare numbers hard.
How to use
- Under "Operation", choose "Addition", "Subtraction", "Mixed" or "Counting", and set "Numbers" to "Up to 5", "Up to 10" or "Up to 20".
- Under "Pictures", press the pictures you want on the sheet. With several chosen, each problem gets a different picture.
- Under "Number sentence", choose whether the numbers are shown (3 + 2 = □) or the child writes them too (□ + □ = □), then set the "Number of problems", "Columns per page" and "Picture size".
- Check the preview on the right and press "Save as PDF" or "Print". Press "Make a new sheet" for other problems.
How it works
- Addition shows two groups side by side with a plus sign; subtraction shows one group with the taken-away pictures crossed out. Pictures sit in rows of five so they are easy to count.
- If you ask for more problems than the range has (addition up to 5 has 10 different problems, for example), the rest repeat with other pictures.
- The same "Sheet number" and settings make the same sheet again. The pictures are drawn inside the tool, so they look the same on every device and in the PDF.
Questions and answers
- Can the child write the whole number sentence from the pictures?
- Yes. Choose "Write the numbers too (□ + □ = □)" under "Number sentence". Both numbers and the answer become boxes, and the answer key shows all three filled in.
- Why is there no problem like 5 − 5 = 0?
- By default, subtraction with the answer 0 is left out. Turn on "Include subtraction with the answer 0" to get problems where every picture is crossed out.
- I want only one kind of picture.
- Press "None" under "Pictures", then press the one picture you want. Every problem then uses it.
- How do I print the pictures larger?
- Set "Picture size" to "Large" and "Columns per page" to 1, so each problem takes a full row. With more columns, the pictures shrink a little so every problem fits its box.
