Matching Worksheet Maker
Enter pairs to make a draw-a-line matching worksheet with an answer key
Loading the tool…
Makes a matching worksheet from a list of pairs: one column is shuffled, and students draw a line from dot to dot. An answer key with the lines drawn is printed with it. Use it for vocabulary matching, word and meaning sheets, or picture matching for young children.
How to use
- In "Pairs (one per line)", write left: right on each line, such as "huge: very big", or paste two columns from a spreadsheet.
- Set the "Pairs per sheet" (2 to 20) and the "Text size". To make it harder, write wrong answers under "Extra choices (optional)".
- Under "How to answer", choose "Draw a line between dots" or "Write the letter in the box". Raise "Different versions" to give neighbours different sheets.
- Keep "Add answer key pages" on and press "Print". On "Solve on screen", students can join the dots on the page and press "Check".
How it works
- Three parts per line, such as word: picture: meaning, make a three-column sheet. Emoji work, and pictures added under "Pictures" are used by typing #1, #2 and so on.
- When there are more pairs than "Pairs per sheet", they are split into several sets. If the text size leaves less room, each sheet holds as many pairs as fit on a page.
- The same "Sheet number" makes the same sheets again. Lists and uploaded pictures are saved only in this browser on this device.
Questions and answers
- Can I make matching worksheets for preschool children?
- Yes. Choose "Extra large (young children)" under "Text size" and use emoji or uploaded pictures on one side. Larger text means fewer pairs fit on a sheet.
- Can neighbours get different sheets?
- Set "Different versions" to 2 or more. Each version mixes the same list in a different order and is labeled Version A, Version B and so on.
- Can students write letters instead of drawing lines?
- With two columns, choose "Write the letter in the box" under "How to answer". Students then write the letter of the matching answer in the box next to each item.
- Can I save a word list to use again?
- Save it under "Saved on this device" with a name, or press "Save to a file" and open it later with "Open a file".
